Solomon - Sulaymân
Bible
The birth of David’s son Solomon is told in the Second book of Samuel 12:24-25.
Solomon succeeds to David as king (1 Kings 2:12).
He prays for wisdom and discernment (1 Kings 3:4-15).
He builds the Temple in Jerusalem (1 Kings 5:15-6:38; 7:13-8:66).
The queen of Sheba visits Solomon (1 Kings 10:1-13).
Then his decline is recounted, connected with his devotion to the gods of his many foreign wives
(1 Kings 11-1-43).
The praise of Solomon is celebrated in Ecclesiasticus 47:12-25.
Jesus declares that he is greater than Solomon (Luke 11:31)
Stephen, in his speech to the Sanhedrin, mentions Solomon who built the Temple (Acts 7:47).
Qur’an
Like his father David, Solomon is celebrated for his wisdom:
And We gave knowledge to David and Solomon, and they both said, ‘Praise be to God, who has favoured us over many of his believing servants (Q 27:15).
Solomon was given the gift of understanding the language of living creatures, birds and insects:
When they came to the valley of the Ants, one ant said, ‘Ants! Go into your homes, in case Solomon and his hosts unwittingly crush you.’ Solomon smiled broadly at her words [in other words, he has understood what the ant was saying] and said, ‘Lord, inspire me to be thankful for the blessings you have granted me and my parents, and to do good deeds that please You; admit me by your grace into the ranks of Your righteous servants (Q 27:18-19).
The contrast is great between the small ant and the great king. But Solomon prays the he may not oppress humble beings.
He is given power over the wind (Q 38:36) and the jinn (spirits) served him (Q 38:37).
The story of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba is told in Q 27:20-44.
